About Older Americans Act

The intent of the Older Americans Act (OAA) is to allow older adults to remain independent, either in their community or in their homes, by meeting the dietary needs of participants. Additionally, the OAA offers participants opportunities to form new friendships and to create informal support networks through socialization opportunities.

Research shows that older adults who participate in senior center programs can learn to manage and delay the onset of chronic diseases and experience measurable improvements in their physical, social, spiritual, emotional, mental, and economic well-being.
